Entering the dairy industry with “zero experience and a lot to learn” Kirk has come a long way since then. Originally self-employed working in the automotive trade, Kirk has gravitated to the more mechanical side of his role at FIL. He loves being hands-on in the shed and is a natural when it comes to troubleshooting issues.
Kirk says that the best part about his role at FIL is “the fantastic people you meet on a daily basis, and knowing you can really add value to their operation” and he takes great pleasure in seeing his clients achieve great results.
Working in the challenging conditions of South Canterbury & North Otago, Kirk says that even though “we have some of the most beautiful scenery in the country” the extreme weather often brings many unique challenges. He goes on to say that “We should never forget farmers work incredibly long hours in harsh conditions” and that being able to help them is all “part of the FIL service”.
When he’s not at work Kirk spends time outdoors, skiing, jetboating, hunting and fishing. He’s also competed in three Coast to Coast World Multisport Championships “with a bit of push and shove from a few of my good FIL clients who also compete!”
